Walk with Johir

Every photograph on this website began with a walk.

I am Md Johirul Islam, originally from Bangladesh and now based in Linz, Austria.

Photography has never been about chasing extraordinary moments for me. It is about slowing down, paying attention, and letting ordinary life unfold. I walk without a fixed destination, following curiosity rather than a plan, and I often find that the quietest moments leave the deepest impressions.

I don't know if I should call myself a photographer. What I do know is that I am deeply curious about people, places, and the stories hidden in everyday life. Photography has simply become the way I explore that curiosity.

Many of these projects were photographed over months, sometimes years, returning to the same places and people until the stories slowly revealed themselves. From the streets of Dhaka to the banks of the Brahmaputra, from the mountains of Bhutan to the everyday corners of Austria, I continue to walk, observe, and learn.

Linz is my newest walk—a city I am still discovering, one street at a time, camera in hand, much like I once discovered Dhaka.
